Austin FC fired coach Nico Estevez and sporting director Rodolfo Borrell, the MLS club announced Monday.
The Verde and Black are 3-6-4 this season and sit in 13th place in the Western Conference standings. They lost their final two games under Estevez, including 2-1 to Sporting KC on Saturday in Austin.
“We are grateful to Rodo for his tireless dedication to improving the Club,” Austin FC majority owner Anthony Precourt said. “Ultimately, we believe this decision is in the best interest of Austin FC.
“We know that our fans and our community deserve a winner, and our ownership group will continue to make the necessary decisions in order to deliver consistently strong results across competitions.”
Davy Arnaud was appointed interim coach.
“Nico has been a trusted ambassador for Austin FC and Austin during his time as head coach,” Precourt said. “We believe this team can compete for a playoff position, and given our results thus far, a change is necessary to achieve our goals of qualifying for the playoffs this year and becoming a consistent winner in this league.”
The Verde and Black hired Estevez in 2024. They were 13-13-8 in 2025, and finished sixth in the Western Conference. Borrell was appointed as sporting director in 2023.
Austin FC will take on St. Louis City SC at 2:45 p.m. EDT Saturday in St. Louis.
