Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, the English Premier League club announced Tuesday.

The Reds said they reached an agreement with Salah before his contract was set to expire in 2027. Salah, 33, sits in third place on the Reds’ all-time scoring list, with 255 goals over 435 appearances.

“Leaving is never easy,” Salah wrote in a statement. “You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home to me and to my family.

“Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

Salah, a record four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, also holds the record for the most league appearances with both a goal and assist (42). The striker’s 534 created chances in open play are the most in the Premier League since 2017, the year he joined the Reds.

His 281 goal contributions — from 189 goals and 92 assists — are the most for any player for one club in Premier League history. Salah joined the Reds in 2017 from AS Roma. He also spent time with Chelsea, Basel, Fiorentina and Al-Mokawloon.

“With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield,” Liverpool said in a statement.

Salah, who won eight major titles with Liverpool, signed a two-year contract with the Reds last April. He later became critical of Arne Slot deciding to leave him off the Reds roster several times during the 2025-26 campaign and said he no longer had a relationship with the Reds’ manager. Salah also hinted that he could play elsewhere.

“Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit,” Salah said. “I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life.”

The Reds (14-10-7) sit in fifth place in the Premier League standings, five points behind fourth-place Aston Villa and 21 points behind first-place Arsenal (21-3-7).

The Reds will take on Manchester City in an FA Cup quarterfinal at 7:45 a.m. EDT April 4 in Manchester, England. They will battle PSG in a Champions League matchup April 8 in Paris.

Salah and the Reds will host Fulham in their next Premier League match April 11 in Liverpool.
