Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant will miss the rest of the 2025-26 NBA season as he recovers from an elbow sprain, the team announced.
The Grizzlies announced the injury update Tuesday night. Morant sustained the UCL sprain in his left elbow during a 124-22 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 21.
“Following a recent consultation to advise on lingering discomfort, it was recommended that Morant receive a PRP [platelet-rich plasma] injection to further optimize ligament healing,” the Grizzlies said.
“Morant will begin offloading the elbow following the injection and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season, but he is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season.”
Morant, 26, averaged 19.5 points, 8.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds through 20 starts this season. The two-time All-Star logged 22.4 points, 7.4 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game through his first seven seasons.
The Grizzlies, who selected Morant No. 2 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, signed him to a five-year, $197.23 million contract extension in 2022.
He has two years and $87 million left on that pact.
Morant missed significant time over the last three seasons because of injuries and suspensions and was available for trade earlier this season.
The Grizzlies also announced Tuesday that forward Brandon Clarke will miss the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from a right calf strain. They said center Zach Edey, who was previously ruled out for the year because of an ankle injury, underwent a procedure Tuesday and is expected to be ready before the 2026-27 campaign.
The Grizzlies (25-27) lost 11 of their last 12 games, including each of their last three, and sit in 12th place in the Western Conference. They will host the San Antonio Spurs (54-18) at 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday in Memphis.
The Spurs, who sit in second place in the Western Conference, won 11 of their last 12 games, including each of their last six.
